16th Spent about a hour cleaning the goo (sticky old drive belts) off the top plate with meths, terrible stuff this goo gets everywhere, yes its on my carpet and my fingers, still plenty to remove from the pulleys on top plate then its the goo on the underside of plate and the reel clutches.
Will be glad when this phase is over still its painless must be the meths!!17th 40 minutes cleaning goo from the pulleys on the top deck, next its pulleys underneath.
Another 30 minutes cleaning goo of underside pulleys, also removed take up clutch so even more goo to clean later.
Cannot believe that perished rubber would make such a mess.
18th 30 minutes cleaning goo from the take up clutch after removing lumps of goo with toothpick cleaned parts with cif then washed off with water very effective. Decided to have a change from goo removal so lubricated the pulleys etc. using silicone oil, all nice and free except the transfer pulley (top deck to underside) which is not as free moving as I would like but guess its OK.
Spent 30 minutes making one set of rubber clutch inserts, fiddly job but ended up with something that looks untidy but they fit and appears to work.
First slight problem, when refitting the e-clip, ping, e-clip with a mind of its own disappeared, never mind I have some somewhere in a box in the garage.
oh don't give me that, you love all that goo really!! xx
